Gretna Career College is committed to the use of advanced technologies in its business operations and for educational purposes. These powerful tools expand the information available to GCC and enhance our ability to communicate with each other. Serious risks may be associated with the misuse or abuse of GCC’s electronic communication assets.
Examples of misuse may include but are not limited to:
- accessing or copying programs or data belonging to GCC or another user without permission (a violation of the copyright law)
- performing an act that will interfere with the normal operations of computers, terminals, or networks
- using GCC’s computing resources for personal or financial gain
- displaying obscene, lewd, or sexually harassing images or text on GCC’s computer(s).
- transferring copies of GCC’s programs or data to another person or computer site without written permission
- participating in peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing
Disciplinary actions are dependent upon the severity of misuse or abuse involving any of GCC’s electronic communication assets and may range from loss of computer privileges to expulsion from the college. Gretna Career College is also obligated to inform and assist state and federal authorities if copyright laws have been violated.
For purposes of this policy, GCC’s Electronic Communication Assets include electronic mail (e-mail), LANs, WANs, telecommunications, faxes, on-line services, the Internal Web (Intranet), and the Internet.
