Nursing Technology: Medical Assistant Option
Diploma Program - CIP Code: 51.0801
In addition to providing the students with a strong foundation in basic nursing skills, the Medical Assistant program was developed in response to the demands of the health care industry by cross training the nursing assistant with the clinical and clerical skills of a medical assistant.
The Medical Assistant program has been developed with the cooperation of nurses and other professionals currently active in the health care industry. Students, who complete all of the state competency skills above the established criteria, demonstrate proficiency of vital signs, and score a minimum of 75% on the CNA Exit Exam will be eligible to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and listed on the Louisiana State Nurse Aide Registry. A Diploma is awarded by the college upon satisfactory completion of college graduation requirements.
Upon completion of the Medical Assistant program, students will possess the hands on skills required to sit for the national certification exam in Phlebotomy through NCCT. Although sitting for the exam is optional, it gives students additional career opportunities. (Contact Admissions Representative for more information.)
